More and more companies see value in disclosing their ESG performance to the capital market via the CSA. We saw another record increase in CSA participation of 33% to 1,843 companies out of over 5,300 companies invited to be assessed for membership in any S&P ESG index. Another 5000+ companies are currently under evaluation with scores to be published in March 2022. As of Nov 12, 2021, participating companies now represent 45% of global market capitalization relative to the S&P Global BMI (Broad Market Index), up from 32% in 2020.
To inform the growing number of ESG-focused investors about corporate sustainability performance, updated ESG Scores will be accessible on the S&P Global Capital IQ Pro platform and on the S&P Global Sustainable1 website as of November 20th.
For the first time this year, CSA participants were given options to permit S&P Global to share a larger amount of underlying datapoints submitted in the CSA which are supplemental to the company’s public reporting: The majority of participating companies took advantage of this option to leverage S&P Global’s platforms to communicate this information to the wider capital market.

Distinctions of top performing companies
As sustainability performance accelerates, S&P Global increasingly sees value in rewarding groups of top-performing companies rather than focusing on individual company ranks. We will therefore highlight those leading in their industry in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook, which will be published early February 2022. Consequently, DJSI Industry Leaders will be no longer be announced as of this year.
