S&P Global Ratings outlook for the global banking sector remains steady, with approximately 75% of bank rating outlooks stable. However, risks persist on the downside as banks grapple with still-high interest rates, commercial real estate challenges, and high public and private sector indebtedness. Additionally, over 70 elections in about 40 countries in 2024, along with the Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Hamas wars, bring spillover risks, including market volatility. We anticipate continued credit divergence across the global financial institutions landscape.
S&P Global Ratings analysts from the Global Financial Institutions team held a live interactive webinar on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, for the APAC/EMEA audience, discussing key themes and trends, took audience questions, and polled the audience views on our Global Banks Midyear Outlook 2024.
