Summary

S&P Global Ratings’ outlook for global banks remains steady, with broad ratings stability anticipated in 2026, even amid uncertainty. Banks have, overall, satisfactorily contended with stressful operating conditions and events over the past five years. That said, banks are operating in volatile times, when significant policy decisions and regional conflicts could disrupt financial markets and rapidly change the economic environment. Meanwhile, solid bank financial metrics--including asset quality, profitability, and funding--and favorable market conditions remain consistent tailwinds.

S&P Global Ratings' Global Financial Institutions analysts held a live, interactive webinar on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, where they explored the key themes and trends for the global banking sector in 2026, responded to audience questions, and gathered audience views through live polls.
