Energy Transition, Carbon
June 01, 2026
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has discontinued its California Carbon Offset Next Month and Next December future contract assessments, effective June 1, 2026.
This follows a proposal published on Feb. 23 and a decision note published March 13.
This discontinuation reflects a lack of market activity for forward delivery of CCO offset contracts within the California compliance scheme.
The last publication date for the CCO Next Month and Next December contracts was May 29, 2026.
The symbols that have been discontinued are as follows:
| Assessment name | Symbol |
| CCO Next Month Strip Current Year Vintage | ARJAK00 |
| CCO Next December Strip Current Year Vintage | ARECC04 |
| CCO Next Month Strip Current Year Vintage MAvg | ARJAK03 |
| CCO Next December Strip Current Year Vintage MAvg | ARECC03 |
| CCO Next Month Strip Current Year Vintage (Mirror) | MRJAK00 |
| CCO Next December Strip Current Year Vintage (Mirror) | MRECC04 |
The CCO Current Month strip assessment (ARJAJ00) and its corresponding monthly average (ARJAJ03) are unaffected by this change, but Platts has updated their names to Platts CCO and Platts CCO MAvg, respectively.
The discontinued assessments appeared in Carbon Markets Daily, Megawatt Daily, and Energy Trader, as well as fixed pages PEA0754, AGP2754, CMA2021, ETA2021 and EVA3006.
Details regarding the methodology for Platts Carbon assessments can be found here.
