Platts proposes to discontinue California Carbon Offset next month, next December contract assessments June 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, proposes to discontinue its California Carbon Offset next month and next December futures contract assessments, effective June 1.

This proposal reflects the lack of market activity for forward delivery of CCO offset contracts within the California compliance scheme.

The last publication date for the CCO next month and next December contracts would be May 29, 2026.

The symbols that would be discontinued are as follows:

CCO Next December Strip Current Year VintageARECC04

The CCO current-month strip assessment (ARJAJ00) and its corresponding monthly average (ARJAJ03) are unaffected by this proposal. Platts has published another proposal for launching an additional CCO assessment and updating the volume specifications for the CCO current-month strip assessment (ARJAJ00), which can be found here.

The assessments currently appear in Carbon Markets Daily, as well as on fixed pages EMA2021, CMA2021, AGP2754 and PEA0758.

Please send any feedback, questions and comments regarding this proposal by March 6 to Platts_Carbon@spglobal.com and pricegroup@spglobal.com.

For those providing written comments, please indicate clearly if your comments are not intended for publication by Platts for public viewing.

Platts will consider all comments received, and comments not marked as confidential will be made available upon request.
