Platts removes UK delivery ports from the SAF CIF NWE assessments Sept. 28

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has excluded UK Ports from the Northwest Europe delivery basis for its Sustainable Aviation Fuel (HEFA-SPK) CIF NWE cargo price assessments, effective Sept. 28, 2026.

The change follows research and market feedback indicating an intrinsic value difference between SAF volumes in the UK market and mainland Europe. This divergence in value stems from differences in regulatory frameworks. The UK's SAF policy incentivizes lower carbon-intensity aviation fuel. In contrast , the ReFuelEU volumetric mandate structure does not incentivize higher greenhouse gas savings. Platts seeks to include only markets where product values are formed under sufficiently comparable regulatory, commercial and demand conditions.

The Platts SAF CIF NWE assessments continue to reflect cargoes of HEFA-SPK delivered to the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp hub, as well as northern France.

Platts published a notification of this methodology change on Aug. 28, following a proposal, published on July 17.

The change affects the Platts SAF (HEFA-SPK) CIF NWE $/mt (AJNWD00) and Platts SAF (HEFA-SPK) CIF NWE Premium $/mt (AJNWF00) assessments, as well as associated currency and unit conversions.
