Platts to remove UK delivery ports from the SAF CIF NWE assessment, Sept. 28

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will exclude UK Ports from the Northwest delivery basis for its Sustainable Aviation Fuel (HEFA-SPK) CIF NWE cargo price assessment, effective Sept. 28, 2026.

The change follows research indicating an intrinsic value difference between SAF volumes in the UK market and mainland Europe. This divergence in value is derived from differentiating regulatory frameworks, specifically around the UK's model, which incentivizes lower carbon intensity aviation fuel, in contrast to the ReFuelEU volumetric mandate structure, which does not account for GHG savings. Platts seeks to include only markets where product values are formed under sufficiently comparable regulatory, commercial and demand conditions.

Excluding UK locations helps ensure that the assessment reflects a homogeneous market in which bids, offers and trades are directly comparable and fungible for pricing purposes.

The Platts SAF CIF NWE assessment will continue to reflect cargoes of HEFA-SPK delivered to the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp hub, as well as northern France.

Platts initially proposed this change July 17.

The change will impact the Platts SAF (HEFA-SPK) CIF NWE $/mt (AJNWD00) and Platts SAF (HEFA-SPK) CIF NWE Premium $/mt (AJNWF00) assessments, along with associated currency and unit conversions.
