Platts to update ethanol FOB New York Harbor barge assessment methodology Jan. 4

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will lower the minimum reflected volume in its ethanol FOB New York Harbor (NYH) barge assessments to 5,000 barrels, effective Jan. 4, 2027. On the same date, Platts will separate the existing FOB NYH barge instrument in the Platts Market on Close Editorial Window.

Following market feedback received after an initial proposal published May 26, 2026, and an amended proposal on Aug. 12, 2026, Platts will maintain the existing NYH barge assessment basis as FOB NYH and lower the minimum reflected volume to 5,000 barrels from 25,000 barrels. These changes are intended to ensure the assessments continue to reflect a broad cross-section of spot market activity in NYH.

eWindow instrument

Platts will separate the existing ethanol FOB NYH barge instrument in the Platts Market on Close Editorial Window, or eWindow, communication tool into two instruments — one for FOB Sewaren terminal and the other for FOB Linden terminal.

Basis location and terminal

Platts will continue to assess ethanol barges on an FOB NYH basis using market information from both the Linden and Sewaren terminals.

In determining the final published assessments, Platts will consider both the Platts Market on Close assessment principles, including price as a function of time, incrementability and repeatability, as well as the relative competitiveness of the two delivery locations.

Because both the Linden and Sewaren terminals remain as the Platts Ethanol NYH barge assessment basis, Platts will not normalize (i.e. add or subtract value to) bids, offers, or trades based on terminal location alone.

As per Platts methodology, if congestion or delays prevent performance under the terms of the reported trade, the seller should make reasonable and timely efforts to engage in other measures to alleviate the buyer's exposure, which may include inter tank transfer.

The seller should not unreasonably withhold such requests. Parties to a transaction may not unilaterally assume that the counterparty is bound to accept the alternative delivery arrangement — any such request should be clearly communicated and mutually agreed to prior to nomination. In any event, neither counterparty should unreasonably withhold all available options.

Minimum volume

Platts will lower the minimum volume reflected in its FOB NYH barge assessments to 5,000 barrels from 25,000 barrels. Market feedback indicated that a smaller minimum parcel size would provide greater flexibility to accommodate different barge sizes and prevailing market trading practices.

These changes will affect the following assessments and associated averages:

Assessment Name Symbol
Ethanol NYH Barge (M1)

AAMPF00

Ethanol NYH Barge (M2)

AAUEG00

Ethanol NYH Barge (M1) MAvg

AAMPG00

The methodology and specifications for the existing Ethanol NYH ITT Sewaren assessment (ANYHA00) will not be modified as part of the changes.
