Platts amends proposal to update Ethanol FOB NYH barge basis and volume

Following market feedback received after an initial proposal published on May 26, 2026, Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, is proposing an updated set of changes to its ethanol FOB New York Harbor barge assessments, effective Jan. 4, 2027.

Basis location and terminal

Platts maintains its proposal to separate the Platts Market on Close eWindow instrument for FOB NYH ethanol into two individual Platts instruments -- one for FOB Sewaren and another for FOB Linden. This proposed change would effectively remove the need to nominate the load terminal.

However, Platts' updated proposal is to maintain the existing assessment basis location as FOB New York Harbor, rather than changing the FOB NYH Barge Mo01 (AAMPF00) and Mo02 (AAMPG00) assessments to FOB Sewaren.

When determining the final published assessments, Platts would consider both the Platts Market on Close assessment process pricing principles and the relative competitiveness of the two terminal locations. These principles include timing, incrementability and repeatability. In general, the most competitive -- or lowest-value -- location would be reflected in the final published assessments. This is an update from the initial proposal published on May 26.

By reflecting two commonly traded terminal locations, Platts seeks to ensure its assessment reflects a broad cross-section of the New York Harbor spot market.

Minimum volume

Platts also proposes to lower the minimum volume reflected in its FOB NYH barge assessments to 5,000 barrels from 25,000 barrels. In its earlier May 26 proposal, Platts had proposed to lower the minimum volume to 10,000 barrels. The smaller proposed parcel size reflects market feedback indicating the need to allow more flexibility to accommodate different barge sizes.

The proposed changes would impact the following assessments and associated averages:

Assessment Name Symbol
Ethanol NYH Barge Mo01 AAMPF00
Ethanol NYH Barge Mo02 AAUEG00
Ethanol NYH Barge Mo01 MAvg AAMPG00
Ethanol NYH Barge Mo02 MAvg AAUEG03

Please note that the methodology and specifications for the existing Ethanol NYH ITT Sewaren (ANYHA00) assessment would not be modified as part of the proposed changes.
