Platts proposes update to Ethanol FOB NYH barge basis and volume

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, proposes to update its Ethanol FOB New York Harbor (NYH) barge assessment basis and minimum volume, effective Jan. 4, 2027.

Platts has received feedback that reduced accessibility at Linden's ethanol barge dock has resulted in a pricing differential between Linden and Sewaren.

Basis Location and terminal

Based on the feedback received, Platts proposes to separate the Platts Market on Close eWindow instrument for FOB NYH Ethanol into two individual Platts instruments – one for FOB Sewaren and another for FOB Linden. This proposed change would effectively remove the need to nominate the load terminal, as the location would be stated in the offer (and bid).

Platts also proposes to modify the existing FOB NYH Barge Mo1 (AAMPF00) and Mo2 (AAUEG00) assessment basis location to FOB Sewaren. Platts would consider FOB Linden activity for the assessment and would normalize pricing data to a FOB Sewaren basis.

Minimum volume

Additionally, Platts proposes to lower the minimum volume reflected for its Ethanol FOB NYH barge assessments from 25,000 barrels to 10,000 barrels to reflect smaller barge sizes.

The proposed changes would impact the following assessments and associated averages:

Assessment Name Symbol
Ethanol NYH Barge Mo01 AAMPF00
Ethanol NYH Barge Mo02 AAUEG00
Ethanol NYH Barge Mo01 MAvg AAMPG00
Ethanol NYH Barge Mo02 MAvg AAUEG03

Please note that the methodology and specifications for the existing Ethanol NYH ITT Sewaren (ANYHA00) assessment would not be modified as part of the proposed changes.

Platts Ethanol FOB NYH assessments are published in the Biofuelscan, and on fixed pages PBF0010 and PBF0210, as well as on Energy Core.
