Platts will launch new delivered South California DDGS assessment April 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will launch a new daily price assessment for dried distillers grains with solubles, delivered South California, effective April 1.

South California serves as a key delivery hub for DDGS in the US. The new DDGS assessment will enhance existing Platts animal feed coverage, while also complementing its "field-to-fork" coverage of agricultural markets.

The new assessment was first proposed in a subscriber note published Feb. 2 and available here.

The specifications of the new price assessment are as follows:

  • Quality: DDGS with protein content minimum of 25%, fat minimum of 6%, Profat combined protein and fat content, minimum 34%, minimum color of 50 (according to the Hunter L test) and moisture level in a range of 10%-12%, standardizing to 11.5%
  • Basis and location: Delivered South California
  • Quantity: Assessment reflects one rail car minimum 85 short tons, maximum 120 st net weight
  • Timing: The assessment reflects rail shipments in the current month for delivery into South California. This rolls to the next shipment month on the first publication day after the 24th of the month.
  • Unit of measurement: US dollar per short ton

The assessment will be published at 1:30 pm Houston time and follows a US publishing schedule.

The assessment will be published alongside existing Platts US DDGS CIF New Orleans and Chicago Trucks assessments in Daily Grains, Protein Daily and Biofuelscan, Platts database and Energy Core.
