2:00 PM Live Panel Discussion - Green/biomethanol: Reducing Carbon Intensity and Monetizing non-traditional Feedstocks

As governments and companies look to reduce their carbon footprint, one tried and tested route to producing methanol is from biomass. This range of sustainable feedstocks includes forestry and agricultural waste and by-products, biogas from landfill, sewage, municipal solid waste (MSW) and black liquor from the pulp and paper industry. This session will explore both the advantages of utilizing biomass to produce the versatile fuel and chemical intermediate that is methanol, as well as some of the challenges that include sub-optimal scale, consumer ability/willingness to pay a premium and the legislative uncertainty around government subsidies and carbon costs.

Moderator: Geoffrey Mullett, Associate Director, Methanol (EMEA/India), S&P Global

    Panelists:

    • Andrew Fenwick, Methanol Market Manager, Johnson Matthey
    • Matthias Schmidt, Director, Business Development Europe, Enerkem
    • Henrik Brodin, Strategic Business Development Manager, Sodra
    • Mike Nash, Vice President, Syngas Chemicals, S&P Global

The live session shown above will start at 2pm UK (GMT). Recordings of each session will be available to delegates who are unable to make the live broadcast.

2:00 PM Live Panel Discussion - Methanol Marine Fuel Full Steam Ahead

As the global shipping industry looks to address the IMO's greenhouse gas emission reduction ambition, methanol has emerged as a leading alternative to diesel bunker fuels. Leading shippers are announcing plans to add methanol-fueled vessels to their fleets, engines OEMs are expanding commercial offerings of methanol capable engines, and key ports are launching methanol pilots.

This session will explore the current experience with ships on the water using methanol, and the decisions by methanol producers and ship operators to order vessels with methanol capability. You will hear directly from the producers, engine manufacturers and leaders of the global methanol industry discussing the use of methanol as a "future proof" marine fuel.

Moderator: Greg Dolan, CEO, Methanol Institute

    Participants:

    • Camille Bourgeon, Technical Officer - Marine Environment Division, IMO
    • Berit Hinnemann, Head of Decarbonisation Business Development, Maersk
    • Peter Schild, Director Marine Fuels, Proman AG
    • Bryan Reid, Chief Sales Officer, RIX Industries
    • Marina Simonova, Consulting Director, S&P Global
    • Baard Alsaker, CTO, Patentec AS
    • Mike Nash, Vice President, Syngas Chemicals, S&P Global

The live session shown above will start at 2pm UK (GMT). Recordings of each session will be available to delegates who are unable to make the live broadcast.
  • Time indicated in GMT Thu, November 18, 2021
2:00 PM Live Panel Discussion - Renewable/e-methanol: The Industry End Game?

Renewable energy has an obvious role to play as part of society's move towards a low or, eventually, zero carbon future. It can be obtained by using CO2 captured from renewable sources (bioenergy with carbon capture and storage and direct air capture) and hydrogen produced with renewable electricity. This session will explore the technological, economic and legislative challenges that need to be overcome before renewable methanol can become material and, ultimately, the dominant production route.

Moderator: Mike Nash, Vice President, Syngas Chemicals, S&P Global

    Panelists:

    • Aram Pedinian Mohr, Commercial Manager, Highly Innovative Fuels (HIF)
    • Sten Wranik, Managing Director, bse Methanol GmbH
    • Mads Friis Jensen, Chief Commercial Officer and Co-founder, Blue World Technologies

The live session shown above will start at 2pm UK (GMT). Recordings of each session will be available to delegates who are unable to make the live broadcast.
