Platts discontinues some Massachusetts, California REC assessments
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has discontinued some Massachusetts and California Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) price assessments, effective Nov. 26, 2025.
This follows a proposal note published on Nov. 12, and a decision note published Nov. 19.
The discontinuation includes the mirror symbols, abatement values and emission-adjusted RECs related to the base REC price assessments.
In Massachusetts, the current legislation phased out solar carve-out 1, and solar generation will now be included as part of Class 1 RECs, which are currently assessed by Platts.
Platts has also discontinued the California REC Prior Year Bucket 1, Bucket 2 and Bucket 3 price assessments due to the lack of liquidity associated with prior vintages, as feedback shows market participants are interested in vintages for current and future compliance years. Platts previously suspended these assessments Oct. 30, in a subscriber note available here.
