Platts discontinues Decarbonization Index, Sept. 30

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has discontinued the Platts Decarbonization Index (ABZIA00) and the corresponding monthly average (ABZIA03) effective Sept. 30, 2025.

This follows a proposal published on Aug. 15, and a decision published on Aug. 29.

The daily index represented the theoretical cost to offset emissions using credits from a basket of sought-after classifications within the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM).

The index used a weighted average of some key Platts price assessments for the Voluntary Carbon Market, which were weighted based on annual retirements data reviewed each year.

Platts discontinued the index due to changing market fundamentals in the Voluntary Carbon Market space and shifting buyer preferences for certain credit types based on annual retirements data.

This discontinuation did not impact any of the underlying VCM assessments. Details of our full suite of carbon credit assessments can be found here.
