Platts amends CFR Tampa ammonia assessment specifications June 27
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has amended the methodology and specifications of its weekly CFR Tampa ammonia assessment, effective June 27, 2025.
Formerly, the weekly CFR Tampa (FATCA04) ammonia assessment covered both spot trade and the monthly negotiated contract price between Yara and Mosaic. Effective June 27, CFR Tampa ammonia now reflects only the latest monthly negotiated contract price between Yara and Mosaic.
The basis location and volumes of the CFR Tampa assessment have been adjusted to reflect the contract terms.
Formerly, if a new contract settlement for deliveries in the month ahead were confirmed in seven days leading up to the final Thursday of the month, the new settlement would overwrite the previous settlement. If a new price for the month ahead was confirmed prior to that, it was considered an early assessment, and the CFR Tampa assessment reflected both current and forward-month prices, until the final Thursday of the month, when the new settlement overwrote the old.
Effective June 27, the assessment is updated as soon as a new contract price is agreed, communicated and confirmed by Platts. The settlement value is therefore published monthly.
Platts has also changed the name of the assessment to better reflect the nature of the value as a contract price (CP).

The Tampa price is negotiated and agreed every month between Yara and Mosaic, typically in the second half of the month; however, the timing of settlements may vary. When a new contract settlement for deliveries in the following month is confirmed in the market in the last seven days leading to the last Thursday of the month, the new settlement will overwrite the previous settlement , and the index is updated with the new price only. However, if a new CP is settled prior to that, it will be considered an early settlement and the new price will be entered in the index as a range, keeping both -- previous and latest -- prices until the last Thursday of the month, when the new settlement will be entered. When occasional spot sales into Tampa take place, they are included in the price assessment at the time of settlement, when the price becomes known to Platts.
