Platts to expand European recycled polystyrene coverage

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will launch a daily white recycled polystyrene pellet spot price assessment, effective March 26.

The decision to launch follows a proposal published on Jan. 28, which can be found here.(opens in a new tab)

The details of the assessment are as follows:

Basis and location: Delivery duty paid Northwest Europe. Northwest Europe includes Germany, the Benelux region, France and Switzerland.

Standard spot cargo size: Minimum 20 mt lots

Product specifications: Recycled PS pellets are post-consumer, non-odorless and non-food grade, with a melt flow index of 4.0-8.0 grams/10 minutes tested at 200 degrees Celsius and a density of 1.04-1.07 g/cm3. Pellets should have at least 30% high-impact PS and do not include any expanded PS.

Colour: White pellets

Delivery: 3-30 days forward

Pricing information for material with other specifications and terms deviating from the abovementioned parameters may be normalized accordingly.

The assessments will reflect the spot value of recycled polystyrene at 4:30 pm London time. The assessments will follow the London publication schedule.

The weekly average will be published every Wednesday. A weekly commentary and rationale will also be published on Wednesdays. The assessments will be published in Sustainable Polymerscan on Platts Connect and in the Platts price point database.

The new assessment will complement Platts' existing coverage of recycled black and grey polystyrene.
