Newly proposed US sanctions on Russia target energy projects, like pipelines and crude oil production, and also provide new sanctions on mining, metals and other parts of the energy industry. But big questions remain about whether the sanctions will be passed into law or imposed.
Senior oil editor Brian Scheid speaks with Nadia Rodova, the Moscow bureau chief, about how current sanctions are impacting Russian production and projects now and what sort of expectations are around future US efforts. Additionally, Elizabeth Rosenberg, senior fellow and director of the energy, economics and security program at the Center for a New American Security and a former senior advisor at the US Treasury Department, talks about why this sanctions package, as proposed, could set a dangerous precedent and could have disastrous consequences.
