Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, is proposing to launch domestic India solar module assessments, effective Feb. 26, 2026.
The price assessments would reflect modules of two categories: PERC with an output of 520-680 W and TOPCon with an output of 570-720 W, with wafer sizes ranging 182-210 mm, applicable to contract volumes of 5-50 MW.
The modules would reflect cells imported from China, given that they comprise the majority of the solar modules manufactured and sold in India.
Solar PV module manufacturing capacity in India has crossed 100 GW, according to the government data, and is likely to cross 125 GW by early 2026, according to industry sources. Market participants have observed an increasing need for transparent pricing in this growing market.
The assessments would be published on an Ex-Works Gujarat basis and reflect modules scheduled for shipment seven to 15 days forward from the western state of India. The prices would be published in Indian Rupees per watt and in US cents per watt.
The assessments would reflect an Indian time stamp (1630 IST) and follow the Platts India publishing schedule. The domestic price assessments would complement the existing suite of daily solar module export assessments published by Platts on an FOB India basis with similar specifications.
The assessments would consider market information reported to Platts and published throughout the day, including firm bids and offers, trades and indicative values, as well as any other data deemed relevant to the assessment process. Platts India's domestic solar module assessments would appear in Platts European Power Daily and Platts REC Daily.
Platts may normalize information with differing specifications heard in the market to the above assessment specifications. Normalization brings market information in line with the Platts assessed specifications.
