Platts to launch AIB unsubsidized manure, AIB unsubsidized waste European biomethane GO assessments from Dec. 1
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will launch new daily assessments that expand its biomethane assessment price suite, reflecting EU Guarantees of Origin (GOs) procured from member states of the Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB), effective Dec. 1, 2026.
These assessments will provide greater transparency to the growing spot trade via the AIB Hub that has been supported by an increase in new member countries, including the joining of established legacy biomethane markets. The AIB aggregates national registry data from each AIB member country and has been expanding rapidly, with Denmark and Germany expected to join the Netherlands, Spain, Czechia, France, the Baltic states, among many others in the coming years.
Platts first proposed this launch on Oct. 9, detailed in a subscriber note available here.
These assessments will reflect the most competitive value for European biomethane certificates from unsubsidized manure and unsubsidized waste feedstocks originating from countries connected to the AIB hub.
Platts will launch current-year and year-ahead vintages for both AIB unsubsidized manure and AIB unsubsidized waste with the following specifications:
- Carbon Intensity: minus 85g of CO2 equivalent/megajoule and below for manure, and 20g CO2e/MJ to 0g CO2e/MJ for waste
- Volume: Minimum volume reflected of 5 gigawatt-hours
- Certification: Certified volumes only
- Timing: The assessments will reflect a 4:30 pm London time stamp and follow the UK holiday calendar
- Units: €/megawatt-hour
The new assessments will be found in REC Daily, Biofuelscan and European Gas Daily, as well as the fixed pages CLE2204, EVA2005, LNG0841, PEP1107, and PGN0876.
