Platts proposes to launch AIB unsubsidized manure and AIB unsubsidized waste European biomethane GO assessments, Dec. 1
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, proposes to launch new daily assessments as part of its Biomethane assessment price suite, reflecting EU Guarantees of Origin (GOs) procured from member states of the Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB), effective Dec. 1, 2026.
These assessments would provide greater transparency to the growing spot trade via the AIB Hub that has been supported by an increase in new member countries, including the joining of established legacy biomethane markets. The AIB aggregates national registry data from each AIB member country, and has been expanding rapidly, with Denmark and Germany expected to join the Netherlands, Spain, Czechia, France, the Baltic states, among many others, in the coming years.
The proposed assessments would reflect the most competitive value for European biomethane certificates from unsubsidized manure and unsubsidized waste feedstocks originating from countries connected to the AIB hub.
Platts is proposing to launch current-year and year-ahead vintages for both AIB unsubsidized manure and AIB unsubsidized waste with the following specifications:
- Carbon Intensity: minus 85g CO2e/MJ and below for manure, and 20g CO2e/MJ to 0g CO2e/MJ for waste
- Volume: Minimum volume reflected of 5 GWh
- Certification: Certified volumes only
- Timing: The assessments would reflect a 4:30 pm London timestamp and would follow the UK holiday calendar.
- Units: Eur/MWh
