Platts to launch daily FOB Indonesia alumina differential assessment
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will launch a new daily alumina differential assessment on a FOB Indonesia basis, effective Nov. 2, 2026.
The new assessment will represent the discount/premium of FOB Indonesia alumina relative to the benchmark Platts Alumina FOB Australia daily assessment (MMWAU00) published on the same day.
The assessment will provide additional pricing transparency for Indonesia's growing alumina export market and complement Platts' existing Alumina FOB Australia benchmark and suite of alumina assessments.
Indonesia's alumina refining capacity has increased significantly following the completion of expansion projects and production ramp-ups in recent years. The country's nameplate capacity is expected to reach 10.8 million metric tons/year in 2026, up 30% from 8.3 million mt/y in 2025, according to S&P Global Energy Horizons.
From January to July 2026, Indonesia's alumina exports totaled 3.3 million mt, up 17% year over year, according to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS).
The assessment will reflect the following specifications:
| Assessment description | Symbol | Quality | Quantity | Size | Incoterms | Timing | Payment terms | UoM |
| Alumina FOB Indonesia differential to FOB Australia |
MMAIA 00 ; MMAIA 03 (Monthly Average) |
Sandy calcined Metallurgical/ Smelter Grade Alumina (SGA) | 30,000 mt and 35,000 mt bulk | max 12% -45 microns, min 88% +45 microns | FOB Kendawangan , Indonesia | Shipment 14-60 days | L/C 30 days ; BL 30 days | $/ mt |
Information on cargoes with specifications that differ from th e above may be normalized to the basis specifications using market-observed price differentials.
Platts initially proposed the assessment on an outright basis on Sept. 14, in a subscriber note available here. Following market feedback, Platts will publish the assessment as a differential to the benchmark FOB Australia assessment.
The new daily assessment will follow the Singapore publishing calendar and reflect a 5:30 pm Singapore (09:30 GMT) time stamp.
The assessment and associated monthly average will be published in Platts Metals Daily, on pages MTL0005 and PMA0005 of Platts Nonferrous Metals Alert (PMA), and in the Platts price database.
