Platts to increase standard ship size range for Asia-Pacific LNG cargo assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will increase the standard vessel size range reflected in its daily Asia-Pacific LNG cargo price assessments, effective Oct. 16.

From that date, the standard LNG vessel size range reflected in the JKM, WIM, SEAM, and MEM LNG cargo assessments will be increased to 135,000-180,000 cubic meters compared with the current 135,000-175,000 cubic meters.

Platts expects participants to be reasonable and accept vessels that fall within the standard size range where they are operationally suitable for the performance of transactions reported in the Platts Market on Close assessment process.

The change reflects prevailing market practice, industry feedback, and the increasing use of larger LNG carriers in the global fleet. Approximately two-thirds of offers reported through the Platts Asia-Pacific MOC assessment process during January-June 2026 specified a ship size range of 135,000-180,000 cubic meters, according to Platts data.
