Platts proposes increasing standard ship size range for Asia-Pacific LNG cargo assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, is proposing to change the standard vessel size range reflected in its daily Asia-Pacific LNG cargo price assessments, effective Oct. 16.

Under the proposal, the standard LNG vessel size range reflected in the JKM, WIM, SEAM, and MEM LNG cargo assessments would be increased to 135,000-180,000 cu m from the current 135,000-175,000 cu m.

For the JKM, WIM, SEAM, and MEM LNG cargo assessments, the proposed standard LNG ship size range would be 135,000-180,000 cu m, against the current standard LNG ship size range considered at 135,000-175,000 cu m.

The proposal reflects prevailing market practice, industry feedback, and the increasing use of larger LNG carriers in the global fleet. Approximately two-thirds of offers reported through the Platts Asia-Pacific Market on Close assessment process during January-June 2026 specified a ship size range of 135,000-180,000 cu m, according to Platts data.
