Platts changes CAC basket composition, Sept. 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has changed the composition of its CAC basket assessments, effective Sept. 1, 2026.

Platts CAC reflects the most competitive of a number of Platts carbon price assessments, reflecting credits from projects that reduce or avoid carbon emissions.

This change follows a proposal note published July 14, 2026, and a decision note published July 31, 2026.

This change reflects evolving market considerations around the floor price for avoidance credits, as well as Platts observations around price convergence between certain avoidance credit types. As such, Platts has revised the composition of its CAC basket assessments.

Effective Sept. 1, 2026, Platts CAC Current Year and Yr01 reflect the most competitive of the following assessments:

Platts CAC Current Year (ACACA00):

Assessment Name Symbol
Platts Methane Management $/mtCO2e Current Year AMECA00
Platts Household Devices $/mtCO2e Current Year CNHDD00
Platts Industrial Pollutants $/mtCO2e Current Year APOLA00

Platts CAC Yr01 (ACACB00):

Assessment Name Symbol
Platts Methane Management $/mtCO2e Yr01 AMECB00
Platts Household Devices $/mtCO2e Yr01 AHDVA00
Platts Industrial Pollutants $/mtCO2e Yr01 APOLB00

As part of this change, Platts Nature-Based Avoidance Southeast Asia and Platts Nature-Based Avoidance South America are no longer included in the CAC basket.

These daily assessments are published in Carbon Markets Daily and S&P Global Energy Core within the ETA and CMA service lines.
