Platts proposes specification updates, additional calculations for its global Molybdenum Oxide Daily Dealer assessment

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, is proposing to update the specifications for its global molybdenum oxide dealer (MMAYQ00) assessment, effective Nov. 2 , 2026, following an extended market consultation.

The proposal includes the following specification changes:

• Changing the incoterm for India from CIF Nhava Sheva/Mumbai to in-warehouse Nhava Sheva/India.
• Changing the volume specifications from 18-24 metric tons to a minimum of 18 mt.

Platts had previously extended the consultation period on its global molybdenum oxide methodology on May 26, 2026. More details can be found here.

The proposed changes reflect market feedback and Platts observations that India-market trades were mostly reported on an in-warehouse basis rather than CIF, and that deals above 24 mt did not show a price difference compared with single-truckload deals.

Under this proposal, Platts would revise the location and quantity specifications as follows:

Platts also clarifies that the assessed range for its Daily Dealer Molybdenum Oxide assessment corresponds to the highest and lowest repeatable data points observed in the wider market. Consistent with established methodology, Platts may exclude unrepresentative data points, including one-off transactions. Inputs that are not fully verifiable may be excluded from the final assessment.

In addition to the proposed specification changes, Platts proposes to launch new daily price calculations in euros (€) and yuan, as well as yearly and weekly average calculations in metric tons, effective Nov. 2, 2026.

These proposed calculations would complement existing calculations by providing alternative currency calculations to market participants.

In practice, it means Platts would publish daily price calculations for its Molybdenum Oxide Powder Daily Dealer assessment in euros and yuan based on Platts existing US dollars-yuan (CNU1200) and euro-US dollar (EUU1200) exchange rates at 1630 UK time. These calculations would be published alongside the existing US dollar ($) assessment.
