Platts adjusts several ammonia freight specifications July 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has adjusted the specifications of several ammonia freight assessments, effective July 1, 2026.

It follows a proposal published here on April 13, an extended feedback period, which was detailed in a note published here, and a decision note, published here on June 3.

In view of a growing preference for larger midsize gas carriers (MGCs) in the ammonia sector, Platts has increased the quantity specification of the following assessments to 25,000 mt:

  • Ammonia Freight Middle East-India (1 port W. Coast) 23.5kt (FACTK00)
  • Ammonia Freight Middle East-India (1 port E. Coast) 23.5kt (FACTN00)
  • Ammonia Freight Middle East-Far East Asia (Taiwan) 23.5kt (FACTO00)
  • Ammonia Freight Middle East-Far East Asia (South Korea) 23.5kt (FACTP00)
  • Ammonia Freight Indonesia-Far East Asia (2 ports) 23kt (FACTS00)
  • Ammonia Freight Indonesia-India (2 ports E. Coast) 23kt (FACTU00)

The name of each of these assessments has also been changed to reflect the adjusted quantity specification.

Platts has also:

  • Increased the quantity specification of the Ammonia Freight Caribbean-Tampa/US Gulf (2 ports) 23.5kt (FACTA00) assessment to 25,000 mt and reduced the number of discharge ports for the assessment to one – specifically Tampa, Florida
  • Increased the number of discharge ports for the Ammonia Freight Indonesia-Far East Asia (2 ports) 40kt (FACTT00) assessment from two to three – specifically Yosu and Ulsan in South Korea and Kaohsiung in Taiwan, reflecting a shift toward three port discharges

The names of each assessment have also been changed to reflect the proposed changes to quantity and discharge port specifications.

In addition, Platts has added a specific fuel consumption rate for loading, discharging, and bunkering to all ammonia freight assessment formulas.
