Platts to adjust several ammonia freight specifications July 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will adjust the specifications of several ammonia freight assessments, effective July 1, 2026.

It follows a proposal, published here on April 13, and an extended feedback period, as detailed in a note published here.

In view of a growing preference for larger midsize gas carriers (MGCs) in the ammonia sector, Platts has decided to raise the quantity specification of the following assessments to 25,000 metric tons:

  • Ammonia Freight Middle East-India (one port West Coast) 23,500 mt (FACTK00)
  • Ammonia Freight Middle East-India (one port East Coast) 23,500 (FACTN00)
  • Ammonia Freight Middle East-Far East Asia (Taiwan) 23,500 (FACTO00)
  • Ammonia Freight Middle East-Far East Asia (South Korea) 23,500 (FACTP00)
  • Ammonia Freight Indonesia-Far East Asia (two ports) 23,000 (FACTS00)
  • Ammonia Freight Indonesia-India (two ports East Coast) 23,000 (FACTU00)

The name of each of these assessments will also be changed to reflect the adjusted quantity specification.

Platts has also decided to make changes to two further assessments:

  • Ammonia Freight Caribbean-Tampa/US Gulf (two ports) 23,500 mt (FACTA00)
  • Ammonia Freight Indonesia-Far East Asia (two ports) 40,000 mt (FACTT00)

Platts will raise the quantity specification of the Ammonia Freight Caribbean-Tampa/US Gulf (two ports) 23,500 mt (FACTA00) assessment to 25,000 mt and reduce the number of discharge ports for the assessment to one -- specifically Tampa, Florida, reflecting a shift towards discharge at this port only.

Platts will also increase the number of discharge ports for the Ammonia Freight Indonesia-Far East Asia (two ports) 40,000 mt (FACTT00) assessment from two to three -- specifically Yosu and Ulsan in South Korea and Kaohsiung in Taiwan, reflecting a shift towards three port discharges.

The names of each assessment will also be changed to reflect the proposed changes to quantity and discharge port specifications.

In addition, Platts will add a specific fuel consumption rate for loading, discharging, and bunkering to all ammonia freight assessment formulas.
