Platts to launch 2027 RIN and RVO assessments, July 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will launch assessments for 2027-vintage D6, D5, D4, and D3 Renewable Identification Numbers, effective July 1, 2026.

Platts Biofuels methodology and specifications guide states that Platts begins assessing next-year RINs on the first publishing day of July.

The 2027 RIN assessments will be published under the following lifetime calendar codes:

  • RD62027 -- Ethanol RIN Cal 2027
  • RD42027 -- Biodiesel RIN Cal 2027
  • RD52027 -- Advanced Biofuel RIN Cal 2027
  • RD32027 -- Cellulosic Biofuel RIN Cal 2027

The assessments will also be published under the following year-ahead rolling codes:

  • RINCY03 -- Ethanol RIN Cal Yr03
  • BDRCY03 -- Biodiesel RIN Cal Yr03
  • ABRCY03 -- Advanced Biofuel RIN Cal Yr03
  • CBRCY03 -- Cellulosic Biofuel RIN Cal Yr03

Platts will also launch the 2027 Renewable Volume Obligation using the percentages and mandates published on March 27 by the US Environmental Protection Agency, effective July 1, 2026, under the code RVOY027.

The RVO is the aggregated cost of the RIN percentages per gallon of transportation fuel as the US EPA mandated in the Renewable Fuel Standard Program.

The US EPA mandates the use of biofuels, and hence the RVO calculation is subject to change.

As per Platts methodology, Platts may update its RVO formulas at any time when such changes are set forth by the EPA and will inform the market of the changes through subscriber notes.

The RVO is a calculation that combines RINs prices and weights them based on federal biofuel blending mandates. The percentages for the 2027 RVO that Platts assesses are as follows:

2027 Renewable Fuel Percentages:

D6 9.17%
D5 0.40%
D4 5.37%
D3 0.84%

Platts, therefore, will calculate the 2027 RVO in cents/gal using this formula as stated in Platts methodology:

2027 RVO formula: RVO = 9.17% (D6) + 0.40% (D5) + 5.37% (D4) + 0.84% (D3)

RINs and RVO are published in the daily Platts Biofuelscan, Weekly Fuel Ethanol Report, LatinWire, US MarketWire, and the Weekly Biomass-Based Diesel Report.

They also appear on Platts Biofuels Alert pages PBF10, 201,210, 301, and 310, and PGA, PRF 28, 164,165, 310, 330, 331, 350, 351, 410, 411, 430, 431, 450, 451, 481.
