Platts proposes to launch Brazil technical corn oil assessments, July 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, is proposing to launch daily price assessments for Brazilian technical corn oil (TCO), effective July 1, 2026.

This proposal follows continued growth in Brazil's corn ethanol and advanced biofuels sectors.

The proposed assessments would reflect the spot price for crude technical corn oil on an ex-works Mato Grosso basis, inclusive of PIS/Cofins taxes. Mato Grosso is Brazil's largest corn ethanol-producing state and the country's main production hub for corn-based ethanol and related co-products.

The proposed assessments would reflect spot transactions conducted on an ex-works basis in Mato Grosso, normalized when necessary by excluding freight and ICMS costs. Platts would publish outright price assessments in Brazilian reals and US dollars, as well as monthly and weekly averages. Platts would use the $/real exchange rate published under symbol USDBL00 to generate the $/metric ton prices.

Proposed assessments:

Assessment Frequency Currency UOM Timestamp
TCO EXW Mato Grosso BRL/mt Daily BRL MT 1730 São Paulo
TCO EXW Mato Grosso $/mt Daily USD MT 1730 São Paulo
TCO EXW Mato Grosso BRL/mt MAvg Monthly Average BRL MT 1730 São Paulo
TCO EXW Mato Grosso $/mt MAvg Monthly Average USD MT 1730 São Paulo
TCO EXW Mato Grosso BRL/mt WAvg Weekly Average BRL MT 1730 São Paulo
TCO EXW Mato Grosso $/mt WAvg Weekly Average USD MT 1730 São Paulo

The daily assessments of technical corn oil, published on weekdays, would be based on truck-delivered spot transactions in Brazil, with delivery of one to 20 days forward from the date of publication.

Platts TCO assessment would reflect oil of 11%-15% free fatty acid (FFA) and a maximum of 1% moisture, impurities, and unsaponifiables (MIU). The assessments would also reflect a minimum transaction volume of 40 mt, equivalent to one full truckload. Platts would consider other specifications and volumes, but may normalize back to the basis.

The assessments would follow a São Paulo publishing schedule.
