Platts to launch four new FOB China rare earth elements assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will launch four new FOB China rare earth elements price assessments, effective June 30, 2026.

The four monthly assessments will be for oxide forms of neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr), dysprosium, terbium and samarium and would complement four Platts CIF North America assessments for the same oxides launched on March 31, 2026: https://www.spglobal.com/energy/en/pricing-benchmarks/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/033126-platts-launches-market-first-alternative-supply-chain-rare-earth-elements-assessments .

Specifications for the new FOB China assessments are as follows. Other quantities or qualities may be normalized to reflect the standard specifications:

The new assessments will be available on S&P Global Energy Core, Platts Rare Earths Market Report, Platts Metals Alert fixed pages and in the Platts pricing database.

The assessments will be published on the last business day of each month, following a US holiday calendar and reflecting a 10 am US Eastern price assessment timestamp.

China is a global leader in the rare earth sector, accounting for about 60% of the world's mine production of rare earth elements – required to produce permanent magnets found in everything from consumer electronics and medical devices to electric vehicles and airplanes – and as much as 91% of global refining and processing capability, according to the International Energy Agency.
