Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will revise the laycan dates for all CFR West Africa polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) assessments to 30-60 days forward from the day of publication, effective May 6.
Platts currently publishes CFR West Africa assessments, reflecting cargoes for delivery within a 15-45 day forward laycan.
Platts has observed changes in polyolefins trade flows in the West Africa market resulting from disruptions to shipping routes, which have contributed to longer transit times, as well as the emergence of higher import volumes of PP from China. Hence, typical delivery dates for spot-traded cargoes are further forward.
The following assessments will be affected:
| Assessment | Basis | Symbol | MAvg | Current laycan | New laycan |
| HDPE Blow molding | CFR West Africa | ABAAI04 | ABAAI03 | 15-45 days forward | 30-60 days forward |
| HDPE Injection | CFR West Africa | ABAAJ04 | ABAAJ03 | 15-45 days forward | 30-60 days forward |
| HDPE Film | CFR West Africa | ABAAK04 | ABAAK03 | 15-45 days forward | 30-60 days forward |
| LLDPE G-P | CFR West Africa | ABAAH04 | ABAAH03 | 15-45 days forward | 30-60 days forward |
| LDPE G-P | CFR West Africa | ABAAG04 | ABAAG03 | 15-45 days forward | 30-60 days forward |
| PP Raffia | CFR West Africa | ABAAN04 | ABAAN03 | 15-45 days forward | 30-60 days forward |
| PP Homopolymer Injection | CFR West Africa | ABAAL04 | ABAAL03 | 15-45 days forward | 30-60 days forward |
| PP Copolymer | CFR West Africa | ABAAM04 | ABAAM03 | 15-45 days forward | 30-60 days forward |
The weekly assessments will continue to be published on Wednesday, alongside weekly commentaries and rationales, which appear in Polymerscan and on S&P Global Energy Core. Platts currently publishes the African polyethylene and polypropylene assessment on page 239 of the Platts Petrochemical Alert. All assessments will continue to appear on pages PCA0239, PCA0787 and PCA0788 (for PE grades) and PCA0239, PCA0538 and PCA0539 (for PP grades).
The change was first proposed in a note published March 18, available here.
