Platts to discontinue India I-REC Hydro assessments, April 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will discontinue the current-year and previous-year I-REC India Hydro price assessments, effective April 1, 2026.

Platts first proposed discontinuing the assessment on March 2, in a subscriber note available here.

The discontinuation reflects the minimal issuance of hydro I-RECs in India since October 2024. When Platts first began assessing hydro I-RECs in 2022, total hydro issuance stood at around 3.7 tera-watt hours (TWh), accounting for roughly 60% of total I-REC issuance of 6 TWh that year.

In 2025, hydro issuance in India has fallen sharply to about 0.1 TWh out of 17 TWh in total I-REC issuance, representing just 0.58% of the market.

As of October 27, 2025, the current-year and previous-year I-REC India Hydro price assessments have been suspended, with further details available here.

The price assessments affected by this discontinuation w ill be as follows:

ACERL00  I-REC India Hydro Current Year INR/MWh
