Platts updates project type for Vietnamese hydro I-REC price assessments March 2

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has updated its Vietnamese hydro International Renewable Energy Certificate assessments to reflect I-RECs generated from small hydropower plants, effective March 2, 2026.

Platts first proposed updating the assessment Feb. 9 in a subscriber note available here, followed by a decision published Feb. 23, available here .

The change is intended to align the assessments with market preferences to procure small hydro I-RECs instead of large hydro I-RECs due to RE100 requirements.

RE100 is a coalition of over 400 international companies committed to exclusively using renewable energy. Effective January 2024, the initiative requires that sourced electricity come from power generation facilities less than 15 years old. This effort aims to stimulate new investments in renewable energy, including hydropower, while reducing CO2 emissions.

The assessments impacted by this change are as follows:

SymbolAssessment Description
AYSII00I-REC Vietnam Hydro Current Year $/MWh
AYSIJ00I-REC Vietnam Hydro Previous Year $/MWh

The assessments are found in the fixed pages PEP1102, PEP1105, CLE2201, EVA2009 and EVA2002, as well as in Platts REC Daily, Platts Megawatt Daily and Platts European Power Daily.
