Platts clarifies specifications for Nature-Based Avoidance, Southeast Asia assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, wishes to clarify the specifications and methodology for its Nature-Based Avoidance, Southeast Asia Current Year, and Yr01 assessments.

This is in the context of the planned March 2 launch of six standalone assessments for credits from specific projects in the broad nature-based avoidance category.

Platts Nature-Based Avoidance, Southeast Asia Current Year and Yr01 assessments reflect VCS-CCB certified REDD+ credits with recognized performance and broad market acceptance.

In addition, the assessment reflects the value of credits from nature-based projects in Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia that avoid GHG emissions; more specifically, this has meant credits with a 2020 vintage and an AA rating from a recognized ratings agency.

Platts understands that credits with an AA rating, or market-accepted equivalent, are regarded as a premium-credit type within the nature-based avoidance space.

These specifications reflect the current liquidity of traded credits and the evolving landscape of quality considerations in the carbon market. Platts welcomes further feedback on how the market views integrity and alignment across credit types to evolve its definition of recognized performance and broaden market acceptance.

This clarification applies to the following assessments:
