Platts proposes basis update for ARA renewable diesel from April 2

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, proposes to update the basis location for its European renewable diesel assessments, effective April 2, 2026.

The change would better reflect the European spot market based on market feedback.

From April 1, the Platts European renewable diesel assessments would reflect transactions on an FOB basis, loading in the ports of Flushing, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerp and Ghent (FARAG). This better reflects the ports where Northwest European renewable diesel volumes are being loaded and traded.

The assessment currently reflects material on an FOB basis Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA).

The assessments and their associated symbol nomenclature will be updated to reflect the included ports accordingly.

The other specifications will remain unchanged.

The assessments affected and the proposed update to location are listed in the table below:

Current DescriptionSymbolCurrent basisProposed DescriptionProposed basis
RD-A FOB ARA $/mtANEWA00ARARD-A FOB FARAG $/mtFARAG
RD-A FOB ARA Premium $/mtANEWC00ARARD-A FOB FARAG Premium $/mtFARAG
RD-B FOB ARA $/mtANEWB00ARARD-B FOB FARAG $/mtFARAG
RD-B FOB ARA Premium $/mtANEWD00ARARD-B FOB FARAG Premium $/mtFARAG

Platts continuously reviews its assessment methodology and seeks to reflect the most up-to-date specifications observed for its market coverage.

The monthly averages would also be updated in line with the proposed basis update.

Platts launched the European renewable diesel daily assessments on May 1, 2024.

The assessments are published on pages PBF1010, PBF1012 and PBF1013 and the daily Platts Biofuelscan report and Weekly Biomass-Based Diesel Report.
