February 02, 2026
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has updated the methodology for its US Biochar carbon credit price assessments to incorporate Climate Action Reserve (CAR)- certified credits, effective Feb. 2, 2026.
This change responds to the growing number of US projects expected to come online in 2026 under the Climate Action Reserve's US & Canada Biochar Protocol, found here.
It also reflects market feedback, which supported the consideration of these credits in Platts US Biochar assessments.
Platts initially proposed the above change in late 2025 via a subscriber note.
As a result, Platts' Current Year and Yr01Biochar US price assessments reflect carbon credits sourced from US-based industrial projects that certify their carbon credits by the following registries and standards: Puro.earth, Isometric, Carbon Standards International, and CAR.
The following assessments are impacted:
| Assessment Code | Current Assessment Description |
| ATCCA00 | Platts Biochar, US $/mtCO2e Current Year |
| ATCCB00 | Platts Biochar, US $/mtCO2e Yr |
