Platts discontinues 2024 RIN, RVO assessments Feb. 2

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has discontinued 2024 Renewable Identification Number values for Ethanol RIN (D6), Biomass-based diesel RINs (D4), Cellulosic Biofuel RINs (D3), and Advanced Biofuel RINs (D5), effective Feb. 2, 2026.

This is in line with the methodology, which states that the final publishing day for prior-year RIN assessments is the last publishing day in January two years after the RIN vintage. As such, Platts stopped publishing the 2024 RIN vintage on the first working day of February.

The affected assessments were:

Price assessmentLifetime code Cal-Year 2024
Ethanol RIN (D6)RD62024
Biodiesel RIN (D4)RD42024
Cellulosic Biofuel RIN (D3)RD32024
Advanced Biofuel RIN (D5)RD52024

In addition, the year 1 (previous year) rolling codes now reflect the 2025 RIN assessments, and the year 2 (current year) rolling code now reflects the 2026 RIN assessments:

  • Ethanol RIN (D6) rolling code RINCY01 now reflects the 2025 D6 RIN, and the rolling code RINCY02 now reflects the 2026 D6 RIN
  • Biodiesel RIN (D4) rolling code BDRCY01 now reflects the 2025 D4 RIN, and the rolling code BDRCY02 now reflects the 2026 D4 RIN
  • Cellulosic Biofuel RIN (D3) rolling code CBRCY01 now reflects 2025, and the rolling code CBRCY02 now reflects the 2026 D3 RIN
  • Advanced Biofuel RIN (D5) rolling code ABRCY01 now reflects the 2025 D5 RIN, and the rolling code ABRCY02 now reflects the 2026 D5 RIN

Platts also confirms that, in conjunction with the discontinuation of the 2024 RIN assessments, it has discontinued the 2024 Renewable Volume Obligations calculation under code RVOY024.

The RVO is the aggregate cost of the RIN percentages per gallon of transportation fuel as the US Environmental Protection Agency mandated in the Renewable Fuel Standard Program (RFS2).

Platts initially announced the discontinuations Jan. 7.

Platts publishes RINs and RVO prices in Platts Connect, Biofuelscan, OilgramPriceReport, and on fixed pages PBF0010, PBF0201, PBF0301, and PBF0310.
