Platts to discontinue 2024 RIN, RVO assessments Feb. 2

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will discontinue 2024 Renewable Identification Number values for Ethanol RIN (D6), Biomass-based diesel RINs (D4), Cellulosic Biofuel RINs (D3) and Advanced Biofuel RINs (D5), effective Feb. 2, 2026.

This is in line with its methodology, where Platts states: the final publishing day for prior-year RIN assessments is the last publishing day of January two years after the RIN vintage. As such, Platts will stop publishing the 2024 RIN vintage as of the first working day of February.

The affected assessments are:

Price assessment

Lifetime code Cal-Year 2024

Ethanol RIN (D6)

RD6 2024

Biodiesel RIN (D4)

RD4 2024

Cellulosic Biofuel RIN (D3),

RD3 2024

Advanced Biofuel RIN (D5)

RD5 2024

In addition, the year 1 (previous year) rolling codes will then reflect the 2025 RIN assessments, and the year 2 (current year) rolling code will then reflect the 2026 RIN assessments:

  • Ethanol RIN (D6) rolling code RINCY01 will reflect the 2025 D6 RIN, and the rolling code RINCY02 will reflect the 2026 D6 RIN
  • Biodiesel RIN (D4) rolling code BDRCY01 will reflect the 2025 D4 RIN, and the rolling code BDRCY02 will reflect the 2026 D4 RIN
  • Cellulosic Biofuel RIN (D3) rolling code CBRCY01 will reflect 2025, and the rolling code CBRCY02 will reflect the 2026 D3 RIN
  • Advanced Biofuel RIN (D5) rolling code ABRCY01 will reflect the 2025 D5 RIN, and the rolling code ABRCY02 will reflect the 2026 D5 RIN

Platts also confirms that, in conjunction with the discontinuation of the 2024 RIN assessments, Platts will also discontinue the 2024 Renewable Volume Obligations calculation under the code RVOY024 .

The RVO is the aggregate cost of the RIN percentages per gallon of transportation fuel as the US Environmental Protection Agency mandated in the Renewable Fuel Standard Program (RFS2).

Platts publishes RINs and RVO prices in Platts Connect, Biofuelscan, OilgramPriceReport and fixed pages PBF0010, PBF0201, PBF0301 and PBF0310.
