Platts begins republishing daily Australian spot electricity prices

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has begun republication of key Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) regional reference prices (RRP) from the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), effective Feb. 2, 2026. The republishing of these prices will provide greater transparency into the real-time dynamics of one of the Asia-Pacific's most important power markets.

This follows a proposal published on Dec. 22, 2025, and a decision thereafter on Jan. 5, 2026.

Platts will include the following AEMO daily prices (A$/MWh), published by AEMO for the prior delivery day:

Average Daily RRP

New South Wales ( HYXAA00 )

Queensland ( HYXAB00 )

South Australia ( HYXAC00 )

Tasmania ( HYXAD00 )

Victoria ( HYXAE00 )

Peak RRP Average Daily Spot Price

New South Wales ( NEDWB00 )

Queensland ( NEDWD00 )

Victoria ( NEDWF00 )

South Australia ( NEDWH00 )

Tasmania ( NEDWJ00 )

Both the average daily RRP and peak RRP prices are published in AUD/MWh and USD/MWh due to their widespread acceptance as primary indicators of system-level pricing and load-driven volatility. RRP captures the fully weighted settlement price across the 5-minute dispatch intervals, while the peak RRP reflects higher-load pricing during periods most relevant to generation margins, fuel burn decisions, and gas/coal-to-power economics.

These values will be published on the fixed page PEA0007.
