Platts proposes to republish Australian NEM Daily RRP, Peak RRP Spot Prices

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, proposes to republish key Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) spot price indicators from the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), effective Feb. 2, 2026. The proposal aims to provide greater transparency into the real-time dynamics of one of the Asia-Pacific's most important power markets.

Platts would include the following AEMO daily prices (A$/MWh), published by AEMO after 5:00 am Australia time for the prior delivery day:

Average Daily RRP (Regional Reference Price)

New South Wales

Queensland

South Australia

Tasmania

Victoria

Peak RRP Average Daily Spot Price

New South Wales

Queensland

Victoria

South Australia

Tasmania

Both the average daily RRP and peak RRP prices would be published due to their widespread acceptance as primary indicators of system-level pricing and load-driven volatility. RRP captures the fully weighted settlement price across the 5-minute dispatch intervals, while the peak RRP reflects higher-load pricing during periods most relevant to generation margins, fuel burn decisions, and gas/coal-to-power economics.

The proposed symbols would be published on the fixed page PEA0007.
