Chemicals, Polymers
January 07, 2026
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has launched new spreads between virgin general purpose and recycled polystyrene (PS) prices in Europe, effective Jan. 7, 2026.
The spreads complement existing spreads for recycled polymers. The spreads are derived from the following Platts assessments.
| Recycled PS assessment | Virgin PS assessment | New spread assessments |
| R-PS black pellets DDP NWE (RPSBN00) | General purpose PS FD NWE (AALUN00) | R-PS black pellets to GPPS (RSPSA04) |
| R-PS grey pellets DDP NWE (RPSGN00) | General purpose PS FD NWE (AALUN00) | R-PS grey pellets to GPPS (RSPSB04) |
| R-PS white pellets DDP NWE (RWSWA00) | General purpose PS FD NWE (AALUN00) | R-PS white pellets to GPPS (RSPSC04) |
The new spreads are published on a weekly basis each Wednesday, in line with the frequency of virgin spot price assessments in these markets.
The calculated recycled to virgin polystyrene spreads are derived from the daily spot price published on a Wednesday in each respective recycled market.
The new spreads were originally proposed in a subscriber note published Nov. 5, available here, and confirmed in a subscriber note published Nov. 26, available here.
