Platts launches Netherlands ERE price assessments Jan. 2

Platts, a part of S&P Global Energy, has launched daily assessments for Netherlands emissions reductions units (ERE), effective Jan. 2.

The Netherlands has implemented its carbon emissions reduction ERE model on Jan. 1 under RED III (Renewable Energy Directive), moving away from its previous renewable energy units (HBE) scheme. Platts will stop assessing Netherlands HBE prices effective May 1, after the obligation deadline for the 2025 compliance period.

Following a proposal published July 31, where the launch date was previously intended for the start of November, Platts has launched prices for six different ticket types for Netherlands EREs under two sectors: LRE (land) and ZRE (maritime).

Platts decided not to launch assessments for the inland shipping sector (BRE) and ZRE-Other amid concerns about a lack of market activity related to changing trade flows.

  • current-year vintage from January to December
  • next-year vintage from November-December
  • previous-year vintage from January-March (starting 2027)

The assessments are published daily to a 1630 London time market close in Eur/kgCO2e, reflecting first quarter transfer and payment terms in line with market practice. Deals reflecting other terms may be considered and normalized to the basis specification.

The assessments reflect a volume range of 1 to 4 million units. Volumes outside of these may be considered and normalized to the basis size.

The new assessments are published in Platts Biofuelscan, the weekly Biomass-Based Diesel Report, the weekly Ethanol Report, Carbon Markets Daily, Platts Connect, PBF1010, PBF1012, PBF1014 and PBF1015 and follow a UK publishing schedule.
