Ras Laffan, Mesaieed facilities attacked

Associated products also halted

QatarEnergy has suspended LNG production due to military attacks on its operating facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City and Mesaieed Industrial City, according to a March 2 statement from the company.

"Due to military attacks on QatarEnergy's operating facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City and Mesaieed Industrial City in the State of Qatar, QatarEnergy has ceased production of LNG and associated products," it said.

Earlier March 2, the Qatari defense ministry said drones launched from Iran targeted an energy facility belonging to QatarEnergy in Ras Laffan Industrial City and a water tank that feeds the Mesaieed power plant.

No casualties were reported, the ministry said, adding that the authorities would assess all damage and that an official statement would be issued later.

Neither the defense ministry nor QatarEnergy immediately replied to requests for further comment.

Qatar is the world's second-largest exporter of LNG, behind only the US. It shipped some 82.4 million metric tons in 2025, representing just under 20% of global exports, according to data from S&P Global Energy CERA.
