West Africa diesel, gasoil imports rise in January: CAS

Dangote exports 36,000 mt amid maintenance

Imports of diesel and gasoil into West Africa rose in January, while exports from Nigeria's Dangote refinery fell month over month, data from S&P Global Commodities at Sea showed.

During January, 1.907 million metric tons of diesel/gasoil arrived in West Africa, up from 1.792 million mt in December, CAS data showed.

The largest non-African exporters were India, Russia and the UAE, which supplied a combined 928,000 mt in January.

Russian exports rose to 214,000 mt in January from 210,000 mt in December. The country has become one of the main providers of diesel and gasoil to West Africa after the EU imposed a ban on Russian oil product imports in February 2023. Russia supplied a total of 3.413 million mt to West Africa in 2025.

Meanwhile, 488,000 mt of diesel/gasoil of Indian origin arrived in West Africa in January, up from 479,000 mt in December. India supplied 4.312 million mt in total to West Africa in 2025.

Five of the 12 cargoes exported from the Jamnagar refinery to land in January were received in West Africa. The Jamnagar exports comprised three Suezmax cargoes, an Aframax and a long-range 2.

On the export side, 36,000 mt of diesel/gasoil were exported from Dangote in January, down from 331,000 mt exported in December.

The Dangote refinery continued a planned turnaround that includes briefly halting its crude distillation unit. The refinery has been importing intermediate blending components.

Dangote exported a total of 2.209 million mt diesel/gasoil in 2025, up from 1.937 million mt in 2024.
