Bursa — Kardemir Haddecilik, which started construction of its new integrated melt shop and rolling mill in Aliaga, Izmir, after getting environmental impact approval, is now targeting a tripling of capacity at those mills due to favorable global steel market conditions.
The company has appealed to Turkey's Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation to get a new environmental impact assessment (EIA) approval for these capacity increases and the process in this regard started on April 30, Platts learned.
The company is aiming to raise the capacity of its new melt shop to 1.5 million mt/year from the previously planned 500,000 mt/year, and the capacity of its rolling mill to 600,000 mt/year from the planned 230,000 mt/year, if it can get EIA approval from the ministry.
Kardemir Haddecilik currently has 700,000 mt/year of production capacity at its mills in Denizli and Izmir, western Turkey, producing bars and profiles.
The company is selling its products to the domestic market as well as exporting them to 90 countries globally, it said.
