Bangladesh imports rise sharply in March

Vietnam exported 3.49 million metric tons of clinker and cement in March 2026, an increase of 15.1% year over year, according to data released by Vietnam Customs on April 10.

Exports also rose 25.1% from February.

The Vietnam Customs did not provide a breakdown for clinker and cement.

Bangladesh became the largest destination for clinker and cement from Vietnam in March with 522,474 metric tons, rising 42.6% year over year. The other major buyers included the Philippines (281,042 mt, falling 63.6% year over year) and Taiwan (122,880 mt, falling 11.7% year over year), the data showed.

Exports in the first quarter rose 21.1% year over year to 9.99 million mt, with Bangladesh, the Philippines and Malaysia being the main buyers.

As of late March 2026, cement prices had increased by over 7% compared with February, reflecting the impact of rising input costs such as fuel and transportation caused by the Middle East war. Similarly, steel prices rose by more than 2%, and floor tiles rose by nearly 5%, while materials like sand, stone and construction bricks saw sharper rises, ranging from 13.5% to 23.3%.

Notably, asphalt was the most heavily affected commodity, rising by nearly 32%, according to an April 7 report from Vietnam's Ministry of Construction cited by the Vietnam Cement Association's Cement Information and Database Center.

The Ministry of Construction expects that the upward trend in construction material prices may persist in the near future, particularly as geopolitical risks in the Middle East continue to pose significant threats to global energy prices, the CIDC said. The ministry urged cement producers to develop supply and raw material stockpiling plans to ensure stable production, it added.

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, assessed cement (ASTM type I) FOB Vietnam at $38.50/mt on April 9, up from $38/mt the previous week. Platts also assessed cement clinker FOB Vietnam at $34/mt, stable week over week.
