System to supply around 30% of plant’s electricity demand
Project to reduce CO2 emissions by 26,000 mt/year
Vietnam's Vicem Tam Diep Cement Company has inaugurated a waste heat recovery power generation system at its Tam Diep cement plant in Ninh Binh province on Dec. 19, the company said in a statement on Dec. 19.
The project captures exhaust heat from the clinker production process to generate electricity, marking a key step in Vicem Tam Diep's efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions, it said.
Vicem Tam Diep said that the system has an installed capacity of 6 MW, with power generated integrated into the plant's internal grid rather than supplied to the national network. Vicem Tam Diep said the project required a total investment of nearly VND 267 billion ($10.5 million) and was completed approximately 1.5 months ahead of schedule.
Once in stable operation, the system is expected to produce over 36,000 MWh of electricity annually, covering about 30% of the plant's energy needs. The company projects yearly savings of approximately VND 60 billion, along with a reduction of roughly 26,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent emissions.
VICEM Deputy General Director Nguyen Thanh Tung said the project aligns with Vietnam's building materials development strategy and noted that all VICEM cement lines with capacities above 2,500 mt/day are now implementing waste heat recovery systems. He added that the Tam Diep project is VICEM's third such facility to be commissioned, following similar projects at Vicem But Son and Vicem Hoang Mai.
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, assessed cement (ASTM type I) FOB Vietnam at $37/mt on Dec. 18, up from $36.5/mt the previous week. Platts assessed cement clinker FOB Vietnam at $32/mt on Dec. 18, up from $31.5/mt FOB the previous week.
