Cement sales in Brazil reach 6.3 million tons in Oct
Industry projects 2%-3% growth in 2025 cement demand
Brazilian cement industry unveils Net Zero 2050 Roadmap
Cement sales in Brazil for October 2025 totaled 6.3 million metric tons, according to the National Cement Industry Union, or SNIC, marking a 7.1% increase compared to October 2024. Year-to-date sales from January to October reached 56.6 million tons, representing a 3.5% rise from the same period last year.
SNIC views the current market as a mixed environment, characterized by a strong job market but significant challenges, including high interest rates and consumer indebtedness. These factors have contributed to a decline in business confidence within the construction sector. Despite some growth in housing programs, the overall sentiment remains cautious. Their forecast for the end of 2025 indicates growth between 2.0% and 3.0%, based on expected demand from ongoing infrastructure projects, particularly in housing and road construction, which are anticipated to require an additional 2.5 to 3 million tons of cement annually.
The Brazilian cement industry will unveil its Net Zero 2050 Roadmap at COP30 in Belém, selected from over 1,250 projects. Brazil currently emits 580 kg of CO2 per ton of cement, which is below the global average. The country leads in the use of alternative raw materials and derives 32% of its energy from renewable sources, including alternative fuels. The goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 through the implementation of Nature-Based Solutions. The presentation is scheduled for Nov. 15 at the Brazil Pavilion.
"The Brazilian cement industry has a long history of acting in environmental, social, and economic responsibility. Shortly after implementing the sector's Mitigation Roadmap in 2019, we renewed our commitment to decarbonization by launching our proposal for emission neutrality by 2050," said Paulo Camillo Penna, president of SNIC. "The new Roadmap is based on the entire life cycle of the cement chain, supported by the development of alternative fuels and raw materials, energy efficiency, carbon capture, storage, and use, as well as Nature-Based Solutions. This roadmap strongly incorporates technology and innovation, with active participation from academia, funding agencies, and various stakeholders in the construction chain."
