Definitive measures expected by July 2026

Imports from Vietnam remain low due to freight costs

The European Commission informed industry players that it does not intend to impose provisional antidumping duties on PET imports from Vietnam, in a pre-disclosure statement on Dec. 19.

The EU's investigation into PET imports from Vietnam was launched on May 21 following a complaint by PET Europe on April 9. In the latest update on the investigation, the European Commission published a notification to interested parties that no provisional measures will be applied to imports.

The European Commission said the investigation will continue and definitive measures are expected by July 21, 2026. PET industry players now have until Feb. 5, 2026, to submit comments on the disclosure and provisional measures.

The European PET market has been impacted by subdued conditions over the past quarter, with spot prices falling month over month. Following the closure of Plasitverd in November, buyers sought new suppliers, resulting in a slight increase in spot prices.

However, market players still indicated that imports from Vietnam remain low due to unfavorable freight costs.

Platts, a part of S&P Global Energy, assessed the three- to 30-day forward polyethylene terephthalate free-delivered Northwest Europe spot price at Eur870/metric ton on Dec. 17, up Eur10/mt week over week and down Eur50/mt from September.
