The US and Mexico will discuss farm and food trade under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) over June 16-17, the Office of the US Trade Representative said in a release May 27. The two nations will review the implementation of USMCA in a series of bilateral talks from May through July.
"On June 16-17, the two countries will hold a second negotiating round in Washington, D.C., which will also include discussions on agriculture," it said.
Apart from agriculture, the countries are also expected to review the implementation of USMCA in areas of economic security and rules of origin for key industrial goods, it said. The US and Mexico are major trading partners in key agricultural and food products, including corn, pork, soybeans, wheat, and beef, according to the US Department of Agriculture.
So far in marketing year 2025-26 (August-September), Mexico accounted for 29% of US corn exports and 11% of US soybean exports, the USDA data showed. For wheat, so far in MY 2025-26 (June-May), Mexico accounted for 18% of US wheat exports.
The two neighboring countries are also major trade partners in the trade of beef and pork. According to the USDA, Mexico has purchased over 45% of US pork exports and 10% of US beef exports so far in MY 2026 (January-December).
On the other hand, Mexico has accounted for nearly 14% of US fresh beef imports and over 9% of US fresh pork imports so far in MY 2026, USDA data showed.
"The negotiations will focus on ensuring that the USMCA benefits US farmers, ranchers, and businesses of all sizes," the release said.
